Short story

It’s too late for me.

It’s too late for me. It’s not too late for you.
He hit me. Hospital again, same nurse, same room, same reason.
They asked me what happened - Again.
"Bumped into the door again."
I didn't. But it's too late for me.
He’s always there. I cannot escape.
Bruised eyes, fag burns, pinch marks.
I guess I’ve only got myself to blame.
Cooked the wrong tea - Again.
I keep dreaming one day me and the kids will get away.
We will finally be happy.
It's too late for me – It’s not too late for them.
They have their life ahead of them. All I've got is a future of hatred.
Bang on the head again. Maybe this time they will see beneath the lies.
It could all be over.
Same nurse, same room, same reason.
But this time it is too late for me.
I the kids will be safe now.

Now there mother is looking over them.

Tupac Shakur’s Legacy Lives On 15 Years After Death
At age 25, the rapper succumbed to gunshot wounds 15 years ago today.

There will never be another Tupac Shakur. Who knew that back in 1991 after he made his musical debut with 2Pacalypse Now that the saggy jean-wearing, wide-eyed MC who rapped about the fictional teenaged Brenda and her baby would grow to be one of the most revered figures in modern American history? On Tuesday (September 13), the 15th anniversary of the day he died at age 25, it is clear that Tupac has transcended hip-hop, held by his generation in the same regard as inspirational musical figures like Bob Marley and John Lennon.
Tupac’s 1996 shooting and death was the final act in a life often overshadowed by drama and controversy. On September 7, 1996, after attending a Mike Tyson heavyweight championship fight in Las Vegas (and then getting into a fight himself afterwards), the rap star was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting. It wasn’t the first time the enigmatic street poet came under fire. On November 30, 1994, Shakur was shot five times and, like a mythical urban superhero, checked himself out of the hospital against the doctor’s orders, living to tell his tales through rap.
Through his music, storied acting career and overall public persona, Tupac Shakur had proved resilient, so his fans held hope that he would survive the 1996 attack that left him hospitalized for six days. But this time would be different. On Friday September 13, 1996, Tupac Amaru Shakur died due to respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. Authorities have yet to find his killer.
Born to two Black Panthers, Tupac understood poverty and black struggle, and he wasn’t afraid to express it through his music. As intelligent, profound and articulate as he was in song, ‘Pac also remained relatable, controversial and contradictory. So while tracks like “Brenda’s Got a Baby,” “Keep Ya Head Up” and “Dear Mama” were made to uplift, fiery anthems like “Hit ‘Em Up,” “Ambitionz Az a Ridah” and “Against All Odds” stood as chest-pounding, testosterone-filled thug anthems. Other hits like “I Get Around,” “How Do U Want It” and “Toss It Up” celebrated Tupac’s flirtatious side.
A double-threat, ‘Pac went on to conquer Hollywood as well, beginning with a brief appearance in 1991′s “Nothing But Trouble,” starring Chevy Chase and Demi Moore. It was his 1992 role in the movie “Juice,” however, that certified him a star. Playing the maniacal and villainous Bishop, ‘Pac put his Thug Life persona on full display on the silver screen. He went on to land roles in films like “Poetic Justice” with Janet Jackson, “Above the Rim” and “Bullet,” alongside Mickey Rourke.
In February 1995, the rapper/actor began serving a prison sentence at Clinton Correctional Facility in New York after he was sentenced on a sexual abuse charge in a rape case he faced the previous year. When he released his third solo album, Me Against the World, a month later, ‘Pac became the first artist to score a #1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart from behind bars.

Later that year, Death Row Records CEO Marion “Suge” Knight posted bail pending Tupac’s appeal and signed the rapper to his label, where he went on to release his first double LP All Eyez on Me and, under the alias Makaveli, his The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (which came out months after his death). While he was creating what many agree was the best music of his career, this period in ‘Pac’s life was marked by the feud he ignited with the Notorious B.I.G. and Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. B.I.G. was gunned down six months after Shakur, on March 9, 1997. While many speak of the two rap deaths in the same regard, there is no concrete evidence to link the two. B.I.G.’s murder is also unsolved.
After his death, Tupac’s legacy lives, particularly with the eight posthumous albums that have been released, including a double-disc greatest hits collection. He has been immortalized in film, books and even college courses, as well as through the works of musicians who have come after him. Traces of ‘Pac can be found in nearly almost every rapper from 50 Cent to T.I. Jay-Z, Eminem, Fabolous and Cam’ron have all sampled from Shakur, and non-rap artists like Justin Bieber have claimed to be fans.

In his death he has remained firmly rooted as a hip-hop legend, but at the same time his legend has surpassed musical genre. Tupac Shakur was more than a rapper or poet or a thespian; he is a motivator, an inspiration and an American classic — even in death.

Dear Mom and Kids,

“I received your (friday) letter today. I’ve already answered the one that came with the second parcel, I hope you got it OK. I did not see the M.O. about my eyes as they had cleaned up when I woke next day.
I had two letters the other day, one from Aunt Em and the other from Unc’ Bill Beddard. The letter from Aunt Em & Co enclosed a 5/- Postal Order (very tasty!) and Uncle Bill’s had one in for 2/-! They came just right! I’m going to answer Aunt Em’s after this but I’m in a fix about Uncle Bill as I can’t find his letter. When you write again will you send their address on as I must thank them for the ‘dibs’. By the way, please don’t go to any trouble or expense for a parcel for me, they are very welcome but I know how things are at home. About that allowance, if it comes as you want me to withdraw the 5/-, I can send it to you by the post.
Please don’t worry about me when I say I’m going on or have been to the range as the slip that chap made last week* (*see previous letter) was probably 1 in a million. You see he put six bullets in the gun and only fired five and when he handed it to me to unload the sixth was up the ‘spout’.
Now I’m thinking of it don’t bother about me and washin’, they let us send some things to the Laundry each week and any other oddments which need it we wash ourselves. About socks, up to now I’ve had no darning to do on my ‘issue’ but that will come!
We went on guard again last night. I was put on guard with the usual sub-machine gun and truncheon, at Wing H.Q. After the supper man had gone, the Corporal of the guard said I could ‘oppit if I liked!! Oh boy, what a life!
By the way (once again) wish ‘our kid’ the best for me when he starts work. Was glad to see that Freda had heard from Norman it must be a great relief to her to write to him. Also thank her for her kind remembrance of the young ex-serf!
That picture you wrote of was round here last week but I never saw it worse luck. ‘Financial straits’!
Let me know how Leo Terry gets on. I see Roma isn’t wasting much time! I’ve first realised that I have never written to Aunt Phyll. The trouble is that I’ve so many to write to that I don’t know whether so and so’s had a letter from me or not half of the time. I do hope she will excuse the delay.
Those pyjamas by the way are very welcome at night, especially when we’ve no fire.
Now for the bit of good news! I’ve saved it to the end of my letter on purpose. I may get as much as 14 days leave from here when my six weeks is up! The officer said that it will be at least 5 days so keep your fingers crossed! When this course is finished we go to an ‘Air Gunnery School’ one of which there happens to be at Bridgenorth, about 30 miles from Brum*! I only hope that they send me there.
That’s all for now, so Cheerio,
Love to you all
Joe. xxxx
PS. May also send a group photo later on, with 3 or 4 pals on too.
PPS. Haven’t got the first yet!.. a bit more:- Thanks for the stamps, Post Offices are closed when we finish each day and they only allow 2 each at NAAFI”

Bed Among the Lentils - Geoffrey's side.

Geoffrey's the vicar. He is grey but confident. He sits in the chair facing Jesus' cross in a church. It is evening.

Susan's gone out again. Shes always questioning God ... I don't understand how someone who spends 90% of her time in the home of the church can question God. She tells me 'A barristers wife doesn't have to go to court so why must I go to church' I pretend that I didn't hear her.

[sighing - looking up]

I know Susan's having her problems at the moment but how could anyone understand her when she doesn't even understand herself. I know I'm the vicar and most believe I pray to God and all my problems are gone. I bloody wish. She asked again 'do you believe in God or is it because it's your job to?' 'Why must we discuss this?' I answered in demand. She left, i think she realized that were out of sherry. She must of popped round to he off-licence. Surprise surprise. I'm still confused to why they would still allow her to purchase there due to the bill shes roared up - which of course i have nothing to say or participate in... she got herself in this mess, she can get herself out.

[Looks at floor, puts his hands through his hair]

But I guess this is better then having nothing... Wake up,  go to church, eat, go to sleep. The same routine every day. Nothing ever changes in this God forsaken house! But -its better then having nothing. Susan gets jealous when Mrs Shrubsole gives me attention, I like that it makes her jealous. It makes me remember that she is human and does know how to feel, but she just doesn't express it enough. It makes me feel so useless you know? Being married to someone who seems to have 0 interest in you. It does really make me question God -even if I'm contradicting myself, why don't i deserve someone who loves and cares about me?

[sighing as Susan walks in]
Go to black, fade out.

Travel Writing

In life, there will always be smells to relate you back to certain places and memories in your life. And unfortunately the one I'm used to smelling and it isn't one im keen to remember - The 36 bus. Theirs no easy way to describe the 36, I could quite easily lie and say I've never been on such an amazing bus/bus service but Its almost impossible to lie.
To my surprise I once managed to get a seat but of course that wasn't before having to stand up for 20 minutes whilst a woman used a seat to carry her shopping rather then put it on the floor. But I couldn't really blame her for the simple fact that there was sick on the bus floor; you should now be starting to get the jift of the smell im consuming. But just because I'm able to sit down that doesn't make the bus any less compact, the bus driver still decides to allow more people on the bus when people are practically licking the windows.
There are three stereotypical categories which each person on this bus fits into and these are.. The youth, also known as 'chavs' to today's generation and there will be an 80% chance that they are blaring Kid Ink whilst shouting on the top of their voices about smoking 'a fat doobie tonight.' These are almost always situated on the back of the bus. Next you have the students, also known as 'hipsters' these type of people are often harder to pick out due to how 'unique' they are. Well like to think they are. They are usually situated either in the middle of the bus or stood up because they're late for college. Finally we have the OAP, also known as a old age pensioner. They're never usually on the bus for long as the most popular drop of point is at broadwalk or tescos.
"Thankfully I'm sat next to an OAP! You cant go wrong they're the most friendly type person you can meet." Yep, I thought that to until I met the ones that use the 36. They're the OAPs which you dread to come across whilst shopping, the ones who are 99% going to judge you by how you walk and look.
I literally count down the stops until my destination, each journey i take seems to take longer and longer. And once your stop finally approaches you have to go through the struggle of attempting to exit a 36 bus, there is what seems like heeps and heeps of sweaty grumpy people in front of you who must see it as a crime to let you get off on your stop. So, usually you do not end off on the stop that you had in mind but usually the 1st or 2nd one after.
If after reading this you're still convinced there is a worse bus then the 36 then you must be clinically insane. Because believe me from many years of experience, the 36 is the most disgusting moving vehicle I've ever set foot in.

Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqiabZqPmpU

The language and the slang used in this video is unusual to hear. This is because it's modern slang used in Film Nior. Personally, I find it interesting because it's different hearing it in this type of format; an example is hearing what appears to be an old man saying "swear down" or "main home boy." As it's usually used in this modern generation, the author decided to use it in this formant for the comedy side of things. Instead of using such sayings as "well betrayed" they could of used I feel very betrayed, but instead decided to use the comedy side of things and use the slag "well." So over all, I think that the author decided to use this language for comedy.

Review

Charlotte Hobson uses a larger ratio of complex sentences to simple sentences. Although she does include a few simple sentences they're not as popular as a complex.
"There was no doubt that it had a certain filthy charm."
As this was put as a last sentence in the paragraph it has a big effect on the reader, this is because it's 'short and snappy' and it allows the reader to understand what she is trying to say without confusing them with a long sentence. The effect of this sentence is that the reader can now understand how irritated she is by how simple the sentence is and the sarcastic tone used. This sentence compared to
"The light bulb in the toilet were alway being stolen, making the fauna in there difficult to identify; but the occasional shouts of horror from people picking their way through the darkness were testimony to it's existence"
It's clear that the simple sentence gets the point across a lot quicker and a lot more simpler. On the other hand, the writer would be un able to use a constant flow of simple sentences as the travel piece wouldn't make much sense and wouldn't review as well as it could.

Charlotte uses a rang of phonology/spokenness. In the travel writing she has wrote
"The fridge chugged like an idling truck"
The word "chugged" is onomatopoeia, this means the writer purposely included this to create an effect on the reader and to describe the truck in more detail. A simile is also used to create an effect on the reader. Charlotte chooses to do this because it adds more power and enthusiasm to the text. Charlotte also uses the metaphor
"Velvety eyed girl."
She uses this metaphor as it's unusual for someone eyes to be almost like 'velvet' so it causes imagery with the reader to imagine what this girl would look like.

About me

Dear - Whoever will listen,

I'm Ellie and I'm you're stereotypical sixteen year old girl. You know the phase which every teenage girl ends up going through, being obsessed with their imagine and not only that but of course.. boys. At the minute I'm currently studying A-Levels in sociology, business and English language. And now you're probably thinking to yourself,
"Wow! she must be so intelligent!"
But believe me, I'm not.

Besides the fact that my life dedicated to completing essays, I've also got a part time job at my local "boots" store. Which obviously I cannot complain due to how friendly everyone I work with are - It's a shame I can't say the same for the costumers. At the minute, I am contracted to 11 hours a week. This means 8 hours on a Saturday and 4 on a Sunday. Oh, and a hours break, On a brighter note, I've finally started to mingle and make friends in college, this is a surprise to me seeing how I've spent the last week wondering around the corridors praying for someone to talk to me. So this means, after precisely 11 hours of wondering around someone has decided to talk to me. If I'm honest I feel for them as they are now stuck with me for the next 2 years; This should be fun.

I've spent the last 10 minutes attempting to roll all my favorite music artist into one genre, but of course no one can top Tupac. For the past year and a half, he has literally been all that I've listened to (besides a few mainstream chart toppers) all the time. Although he died almost 18 years ago, of course 'the legend still lives on.' Unlike a lot of people my age and older, they seem to be disgusted by the language used in his songs and are quick to judge without actually listening and looking up the lyrics. Tupac also wrote poems, this inspired me in my last year of school to take English literature and to then go on to finishing with a grade B! Long story cut short - I believe he was an amazing man.

If you've wanted to know the outline of my life and a few things about me then this about sums me up. Like I said at the start I'm your average, stereotypical sixteen year old girl. Nothing more, nothing less.
